Let your practice be your medicine! With 27 years experience of Iyengar yoga practice, Terence Ollivierra introduces simple yet potent principles that can be applied to asana practice. Through his practical approach, Terence will help you develop an awareness of what can create upset in the spinal column during each pose & transition. Revitalize your personal practice as we apply these principles to ease chronic back pain by decompressing the spinal column. Alternatives and manual adjustments for back issues also covered.
Through a very simple step-by-step approach, pose-by-pose we will try to create an awareness of what can create upset in the spinal column during each pose as well as during slow transitions. Class will start with a bit of relaxation and breathing/settling to observe where there is ‘space’ and set up a baseline for maintaining & expanding length and space in the spinal column. Sitting (or standing) and doing shoulder openers and observing what’s pulling on the spine, for example, as the hands go up and back. For instance, while bending the knee into warrior 2 we will examine what’s changing in the spine, what’s the relationship between the adductors and the lumbar spine, what to allow and where to resist to maintain length, etc... depending on the level of experience of the attendee, Terence will explore with you a bit of every category of asana with the same sort of mindfulness to the vertebral column.
